A dat foamea in chinezi
Filed under: opinii, random — morcat @ 12:19 pm

Stirea completa e aici.

¡Hola chicos y locos!

Hello our dearest friends!
It´s been quite a while since I wrote anything in English, so please forgive me my errors in writing…:-) I am only practicing my spanish…
Bueno, we are here over three months and we experienced a lot. Some of you know already some parts of our life, so please read over:-)

The first 8 weeks we were basically occupied with organizing and running around to find the right papers and places for being resident of Buenos Aires and being registered at the UNI. After that, we tried to find a place to life. It was quite easy to find a cool place to live since they have plenty of space and rent it out very expensively. So we found a very cool apartment in the heart of the old part San Telmo. This is one of the oldest part of Buenos Aires, very close to the port, where former most of the things happened. Buenos Aires used to have a very important role cause of its port. It´s still very important but as we know, sea freight is not as big as before. But nevertheless, the port in Buenos Aires is beautiful. The barrio it´s so called Puerto Madero, since they used to ship wood mostly. You can see tons of german machines like cranes or other german high class workmanship. They used to and still import a lot of things from abroad since the Argentinean industry is weak and they depend a lot on the foreign capital.

Buenos Aires is fabulous for its offers on cultural things. There are plenty of theaters, cinemas (for free too), markets, museums for free, discussions, strikes, concerts, music in general, tango, cobble stone streets, plazas etc. It´s a very exciting thing to take the bus here…the bus drivers are more or less crazy about driving very fast through the city. In rush hours, it´s more a stop and go and if there is a stroke (mostly every day) they are stuck in the traffic jam. There is either a demo, strike or barrier. So you always need a lot of time to go to UNI or come back. In May, the madres de la plaza de mayo (mothers of the plaza de mayo) remembered the disappeared people during the military dictatorship…they were approx. 30.000 people killed or retarded and till today they don´t know exactly what happened with them. I guess it´s the same process in dealing with the history like we germans have to do… but funny, that they always think that we germans are very racists (only). They have a very specific opinion about foreigners and about Europe. The Argentineans define themselves very often as european but without knowing what europeans think or feel in certain ways. But since they mainly eat Pizza y Pasta they have the a good reason to say that they are europeans:-).
I guess it´s a very unique experience that we make since we life here and we learn very day something new about this culture. But at the same time we come to a point where it´s hard to accept their opinion. We always love to discuss things like trash, politics, environment protection, economics, etc. and they look at us like we would come from the moon and they never heard anything of protecting the environment, saving water, avoiding rubbish etc. That´s funny in a way but very depressing too.

There are some very nice things like the feeling of Tango and its music on the streets and in summer, they dance tango on every plaza and you can hear the vibes of tango in every corner. That´s nice but you have to know that Tango comes originally from Finland. WEll, just imported like many other things:-). A great thing is the argentinian cinema. They do have many productions going on and if you have the chance you should see: Solo por hoy - Buenos Aires (just for today - Buenos Aires), La puta y la ballena (la bitch and the whale) or garage olimpo (a film about the dictatorship in Arg).
Right now, the city Buenos Aires is getting prepared for the election for the new mayor…and in order to gain more votes, the current mayer (Telerman) pimp up the city. Hundreds of constructions, new painted governmental houses, new pedestrian ways, new promises to the folk…

Well, we are pretty occupied with UNI and traveling:-). We have already passed one exam and we did NOT fail! I tried to complete 3 courses but that´s tooo much for me. So I focused on one class which is “geografía Economía” and it´s very good. I write an essay about soya! Manuel is still preparing for 3 clases, he is just a freak!
In between these busy days we always found time to leave the city for a long w-end! We love long w-ends as you know!
So the last trips were one to the north part of the argentinean patagonia (Parque Lanin) and the other trip was to Córdoba and its Sierra, a city 9hrs westward of Buenos Aires.
Well, some pictures of Parque Lanin you can see here.
.
We were hiking 6 days around beautiful lakes, went swimming in glaciers lakes, had amazing views. It was quite exhausting but extremely recreative from our city-life. Unfortunately I lost over 200 pictures, means I can´t present more than what you see!

Lately, we went to Córdoba for rock climbing. It was Manuel´s wish for his 29th birthday to climp up a rock and touch the cross at the summit. Well we went there and it was spectacular and very impressing to climb up three wire length (120m) and have this thrill….As you can see in the pics, we were lucky with the weather for 2 days. We enjoyed the sun and the warm rocks, but the last day we had to survive in fog and cold air…

Of course we have done many other things, like discovering the city, the barrio San Telmo, we went to Uruguay and its main capital Montevideo in order to research some papers and books for our essays we have to write for the uni in Hamburg.

Indeed, it´s a very special time… We live together for the first time in our relationship which is a thrill as well:-). There are plenty of things to do and we try to be part of the social life. Fortunately I know some girls from 2004 and we are still hanging out together, going climbing together and they explain many things for us:-). Sarah, if you remember, I am still in touch with Karina and Andrea and they were asking about you. We hang around in our little apartment too since it´s very cosy and nice. Right now, we don´t feel like going out much since it´s very cold here and with the high humidity it´s even worse. Actually, the people here are not prepared for this cold. Many people died because the heat their house with the gas taps from the oven and died cause of the poisoned air. What a bummer!

Buenos Aires is a very interesting city and I can recommend a visit to everybody! But in Spring or fall:-)
There are some links below to see our investigations in order to find good spots to take photos. There is still a lot places to discover. There are 15 Million inhabitants living in this huge city. The pics are here: San Telmo & Buenos Aires.

In case you wanna write to us, please don´t hesitade: We are very happy about REAL mail!
We would be very happy to hear from some of you….

Saludos y besos,
Christine y Manuel
